How to respond to a new client lead.
Overview
New leads are exciting, but they’re a first step. You always want to arrange a conference/video call with a prospect to get the “full picture.” Establish credibility and authority at this stage by detailing any previous experience relevant to their project request.
Hi <Prospect>,
Thanks for reaching out.
Your project sounds intriguing and it’s something I have experience with.
Recently, I completed a <project name/description> for a client where we <brief description of project>
My efforts resulted in <detail business results of the project>.
I’d like to learn more about what you’re looking for. Can we jump on a Zoom / Skype / FaceTime call and discuss it further?
After reviewing my schedule, I’m available at these times:
[Example: Monday, July 18 at 3:30 pm.]
<Day, Date, Time>
<Day, Date, Time>
<Day, Date, Time>
Please let me know which of these times work for you.
I’m looking forward to it.
Regards,
<You>
Notes & Strategy
You never want a prospect to think you aren’t in demand.
The purpose of this email is to set up a discovery call to find out if the project is right for you.
If you have similar experience with a recent client, briefly explain your role in the project and detail the business results.
Referencing a similar project establishes you as an expert/authority, and lets the prospect know you’re not merely a “laborer for hire.”
Always give specific dates/times when scheduling a call.
Be flexible but always provide exact options.
You want to make it easy for the prospect to commit to a time.
On the call, have your project discovery questions ready, and be prepared to take notes.
