When the client agrees to work with you.
Overview
The moment a prospect turns into a paying client is exciting. Remember, money is the fuel that drives the process. It’s not pushy to request a deposit immediately. It sets the tone that you have standard procedures, and getting paid on time is one of them.
Hi <Client>,
Great news! I’m excited you’ve chosen to work with me.
I’ve blocked out dates on my calendar for you, and meanwhile, here’s a list of what we’ll need to get started.
<items you need from client>
By the time <insert start date> rolls around, we’ll be ready to start without any delay.
To hold these dates, please submit a deposit in the amount of ($XXX), which you can submit by clicking here [online payment link]
I’ll also be sending you a client services agreement that outlines standard procedures, timelines, and payment terms.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
I look forward to working with you.
<You>
Notes & Strategy
Never begin work without a signed contract and a deposit.
Requesting a deposit to secure dates on your calendar encourages them to “get the ball moving” so they don’t lose their slot.
Asking for project items also moves the process forward and shows your seriousness about getting started.
Follow up with a client services agreement (contract) and an onboarding document that outlines your process (client feedback, communication best practices, etc...)
